ILOLAW On Urban Dictionary!

By now most of you have heard about my quest to make ILOLAW a permanent part of the internet and conversational lexicon.

I came up with the acronym for Inappropriately Laughing Out Loud At Work back in October after inappropriately laughing out loud at work myself. I first introduced it to the world in a post in mid October. I reintroduced it in a post in December after I had it in the title of the blog and people got confused.

Most of my friends are using ILOLAW on a regular basis, which I am ecstatic about, but I knew I needed to make bigger moves if the acronym was going to become known the world over.

So I decided to submit it to Urban Dictionary earlier today.

Basically you submit the word, its definition, and an example of the word, then the editors of the site review the submission before accepting it.

I just received the following email from Urban Dictionary in regards to my submission:

Thanks for your definition of ILOLAW!

Editors reviewed your entry and have decided to publish it on urbandictionary.com.

It should appear on this page in the next few days:

Urban Dictionary

In a few days, ILOLAW will officially be a part of the Urban Dictionary. I am beyond excited about this.

I just checked, and ILOLAW hasn't yet appeared in the previously mentioned URL. I'll be checking every 5-10 minutes until it's up and will let everyone know when it goes live.

When it does go live, you can visit the definition page and give a thumbs up or thumbs down to the word. When it goes live, I would really appreciate it if you head over to the ILOLAW definition page and thumbs up it.

Now that it is in the dictionary, my goal is to make it the Urban Dictionary Word of the Day.

Check back for more updates and to find out when you can thumbs up ILOLAW on Urban Dictionary!

SIDE NOTE: Here is the definition I submitted to Urban Dictionary:

An offshoot of the popular "lol" acronym, ILOLAW stands for "inappropriately laughing out loud at work." It is used to describe situations where something done, said, or witnessed causes you to laugh out loud so intensely while at your place of occupation that others take notice. Reactions from coworkers or bosses to an ILOLAW can be positive or negative.

The first "L" in ILOLAW can also mean "laughs," "laughed," or "laugh" depending on how ILOLAW is used in a sentence.

And the example:

Next time we're GChatting at work, don't forward me your new favorite hysterical Youtube video...they always make me ILOLAW, and my boss says he'll fire me next time it happens.
